The Temple of Heaven is a monument of the Chinese capital, located in the historic district of Xuanwu south of the city.
The origin of this temple dates back to ancient China. At the time, the emperor was regarded as the “son of heaven”, responsible for making the connection with the heavenly authority to maintain good order on earth. To show respect to Heaven, the sacrificial ceremonies were very important.
The Temple of Heaven was inscribed by UNESCO on the World Heritage List in 1998
