Cloud Gate is an urban sculpture by British artist Anish Kapoor in Millennium Park located in the Loop community area of Chicago (Illinois, USA). Centerpiece of the AT & T Plaza, is located above the Park Grill and adjacent to the Promenade Chase. It was built between 2004 and 2006 with a temporary unveiling in the summer of 2004. Nicknamed The Bean because of its shape, its exterior is in 168 polished stainless steel plates welded together. It is 10 meters high, the base is 20 m × 13 m and weighs 99.8 tons. Its appearance is inspired by liquid mercury. Polished exterior reflects and distorts the skyline of the city. Visitors are invited to walk around and under the high arch of 3.70 m containing a concave chamber called “omphalos” that multiplies and distorts the image viewer by reverberations.
