Freedom Monument, Riga, Latvia

The Freedom Monument, located in Riga, Latvia, is a memorial erected in honor of fallen soldiers during the War of Latvian independence (1918-1920). Opened November 18, 1935 at the 17th anniversary of the independence of the country, this monument is affectionately called Mildaby the inhabitants of the city. Considered an important symbol of freedom, independence and sovereignty of Latvia, it is often the central place of public events and official ceremonies.
