Jeju-do is a province and a Korean subtropical island.
Before 1910 it was known in Europe under the name Quelpaert or Quelpart
The Jeju Island is located 85 km from the Korean peninsula which it is separated by the Strait of Jeju, and it is the only subtropical region of the country. The volcano Hallasan, the highest point in South Korea, is 1 950 meters. The eruption of Hallasan, now extinct, is the origin of the formation of the island.
